Have you ever had such a terrible experience with designing website that when you look back at it, adrenaline just pumps in your veins and you want to strangle somebody? Well I had! Let me just tell you something about the worst client you can get.
I was working with my business partner who occasionally provided me with different clients. He found me some bookstore who wanted to redesign their website. He said I only had to design the page, but what he forgot to mention was that this is not just a page, it’s a web shop. When I figured that out, I wasn’t that shocked, because I’ve done this kind of work before. So I was still optimistic about this project.
The day I met representative for this bookstore I realized it’s going to be a long month. Three persons who never agreed on single thing were telling me how they want their website to look. It was hell! Make sure you always compose some kind of a contract and include at least some of these pointers
- define what’s the extent of your work. Are you supposed to make only design or are you supposed to make advertising banners, icons, subpages, mail templates,…
- define how many different starting designes will you have to provide
- when they select design, define a number of updates to selected design, otherwise you going to change your design at least 100 times, and it gets quite frustrating
- define the payment options, third before, third after design is selected, third when you complete the project
