I got myself new Colin McRae Dirt (CMD) PC game and my smile is getting wider by day. It’s been a while since I player old CM games. The progress can be seen in first few seconds of playing. I am big extreme sports fanatic and when I heard the voice of Travis Pastrana in main menu, it seemed I will enjoy this game.
The menus are minimalistic, well formed and fast, which is what I
like most in games. Graphic! My God graphic! I was affraid Codemasters wouldn’t use HDRI lightning, but they didn’t disappointed me. CMD has all the eye candy players want to see in today’s games. Graphic is absolutely wonderful! They were really careful about every detail. I have Nvidia 8600 GTS and Intell’s Core 2 Duo 6420 and there is no stammer whatsoever at 1024 x 768 with full screen anti-aliasing.
At first I thought that physical model is not realistic enough and it almost ruined the game for me. I had something similar happened to me when I started to play CM3. But I didn’t quit playing because I knew that I will get used to it, and I did. Every car has his own unique handling. There is no more drifting through every corner with Fiat Punto on FWD. If you want to drift like pros do, you’ll just have to get some skills…oh yeah and a 4WD car too. Car damage is better and now you can completely
destroy your car with single crash. Usually a nice straight crash into rocks with high speed will do.
The game demands more time to get used to. I can’t get rid of the feeling everything would be easier with computer wheel. I will try it as soon as I buy one. Overall if the game forces you to buy new computer hardware, it must be good.

You deserve a darwin award for this quote. If it forces you to buy new hardware, they didn’t optimize the code, 3d models, bla bla… One asks himself, how can a game, that uses pivot physics, run so slow.
This game is arcade, so mentioning physics engine should be limited to 3 words (physics are crap).
If you want to drive like pros, get Richard Burns Rally from SCi.
