Not long ago I’ve started to use Wordpress for my Novak’s Blog. I got acquainted with Wordpress in reasonably short time. Somehow I didn’t like all the pre-made themes, so I decided to make my own. 5 days later my theme was ready for web and I started blogging full time. But in time I realized that this raw Wordpress’s administration has to little to offer to suit my needs. So I’ve looked to find some useful plugins, which could make my work easier and more efficient.

I found a lot of websites which listed a lot of nice plugins. While experimenting I found these plugins most useful:

  1. Akismet … already included in Wordpress. Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.”

  2. Another Wordpress Meta Plugin … Plugin for inserting the META tags ‘keywords’ and ‘description’ into your posts, pages and index page. You get two inputs under post write page for you to insert description and keywords.

  3. Category Cloud Widget … this one is not extremely important but I use it because I think some users rather see categories displayed in tag cloud. It adds a sidebar widget to display the categories as a tag cloud.

  4. Dagon Design Sitemap Generator … very useful plugin which generate customizable sitemap. Good for SEO for your blog.

  5. diggIT … This plugin allows quick integration for WordPress users that want to automatically have the “digg” button show up for each of their posts. You can even customize it. I tried a lot of different plugins to add digg button, but all of them were to complex to insert in my blog. This is the simplest one to import and it works great.

  6. Google (XML) Sitemaps … This generator will create a sitemaps.org compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported By Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. Why another sitemap generator? This plugin creates XML file which you can be seen by mentioned search engines. Great plugin for SEO.

  9. YouTube … A filter for Wordpress that displays youtube.com videos. The easiest way to include youtube videos in your posts.

  10. Hello Dolly … Build in Wordpress, this is not just a plugin, it symbolizes the hope and enthusiasm of an entire generation summed up in two words sung most famously by Louis Armstrong: Hello, Dolly. When activated you will randomly see a lyric from Hello, Dolly in the upper right of your admin screen on every page. Maybe totally useless, but I like it.
