Will Removing AdSense Make You Richer?

I was reading John Chow’s blog and came upon two of his posts which contradicts each other. I guess even verified things change with time.

In his first post Make Money dated April 25. 2007 he listed some ad networks and affiliate programs he use on his blog.

“If you don’t know what Google AdSense you can get more info in my post called Google AdSense. This is pretty much a must have if you want to make money from a blog. Google display simple text and image ads on your blog that are targeted to what you’re writing about. Google has been a consistent money maker for this blog.”

Latest post How To Make Direct Ad Sales on August 22. 2007 he is saying this.

“Get Rid of Google AdSense. If you are seeing a lot of Google Sitematch ads on your blog, that’s a good indication that it’s time to sell your ads directly. A sitematch ad is a Google AdSense ad targeted directly to a specific site - it only shows up on that site and no others.”

I’m not a person who would hurry and remove AdSense ads from my blog, but John has a good point there. I guess direct advertising pays better than Google AdSense but only if you have enough web traffic.

Was it baron Minhauzen who tried to get out of the lake by pulling his own hair up? It is somewhat if similar situation.

Actually, direct advertizing pays better even if you don’t have high traffic. Problem is, it is hard to get advertizers if you don’t have high traffic.

It’s kind of a paradox. I think the best way to get direct advertisers is to know the advertiser personally.

How do you get started with direct advertising? Do you just email them at their website?

He raises a good point. One of Google’s strengths is caused by blogger’s lack of interest in direct sale of advertising.

Yes, Direct advertising pays better than adsense or other contextual advertising networks. But its hard to find the direct advertiser of same kind for beginner . SO its better to start with adsense and then remove them after getting sufficient experience and better advertiser for the space.

Yeah, generally, adsense will not get you much money unless you can really push the right kind of traffic. It is very good for monetizing niche blogs that you can’t find other ways to monetize.

Adsense is a leakage of revenue when you are pushiung products or affiliate offers. You just might push someone who would take your $5 affiliate offer away by them clicking on a 15 cent ad.

I believe if u are selling products on your website then adsense is considered to be a ‘leakage of revenue’ on one’s site but if it’s a blog then you can proceed and have a mixture of both adsense and direct advertising.
