Everybody wants for their posts to make Digg’s home page. We all know every theme that makes home page receives a lot of traffic in short time. It’s true that only for a short period of time, but there are a lot of visitors who will see your blog and some of them might subscribe to your RSS. So how can you generate more traffic from Digg? You’ll think I’m kidding.

When I started to write my blog I didn’t know what was Digg all about. Then I was beginning to see a lot of posts talking about Digg, like it’s some kind of a wonder. I would instantly go to digg.com, create my account and submit my posts. It’s no surprise I didn’t get much traffic from it. There were 10 to 20 visitors a day who would came to my blog.

The mistake

I have one fairly popular post on Digg called Moments Frozen in Time 3rd Part. But even this posts didn’t bring much traffic. Because of that I automaticlly started submitting every post as soon as I wrote it. Because I’m not that popular on Digg and nowhere near power user status, my posts haven’t received much pageviews.

The solution

If you have similar problem my advice to you is: Don’t do anything! Absolutely nothing. When you publish your post don’t run and submit it to Digg. Instead, let your visitors submit your posts. If it’s interesting somebody will submit it and maybe he or she will be a power user or will have many friends on Digg.

Now that Novak’s Blog has new design, you can find Digg it! button at the bottom of every post. This will encourage users to submit new content from my blog to Digg. Don’t worry about submitting duplicate content, Digg detects if the content already exists and provide either a Submit or Digging interface

Now you know what to do. If you’re already a power user you don’t have these problems so this post goes to all you guys who are struggling to succeed in blogging community. Try this method and maybe you’ll see your post on front page of the Digg.

Which button should I choose?

You have 3 different “digg this” buttons which you can integrate to your blog. Follow the links to go to Digg’s integrate page.

  1. “Digg This” with Submit Capability the best way to allow your site’s visitors to Digg news and videos right on your site.
  2. Simple “Digg This” with Digg Count (original version) the best way to have people Digg your podcast. Also, a more basic way to Digg news and videos.
  3. Custom Submission-Only Button a basic method to allow your site’s visitors to submit and Digg news and videos. The advantage is you can use your own graphic or text.

I would recommend the 3rd option:

  • it doesn’t use any javascript
  • all arguments are in the querystring
  • button is w3c compliant
  • you can customize it as you like

What do you think about “Digg this” buttons? Would you consider putting it on your blog?
